Melany Castillo

Fun-Loving. Busy Bee. Ambassador.

I didn't really have a stable home and my family was going through a lot of hardships.

It was getting harder for my mother to pay bills, our rent, and other necessities. That's when I decided to attend college further away so that I can pay on my own and not have my family worry so much about me. Luckily, Student Support Services as well as the admissions counselors and David Woodward worked with me every step of the way and still do to this day.

In order to pay for college, I work three jobs on campus, which I absolutely love. I am an ambassador/tour guide for the college, an overnight host and work at the student activities office.

"I know attending Ripon is probably one of the best decisions I have ever made and will never regret.”

Definitely, make the fun things fun and the serious things serious. Remember that no matter where you are from or what your background is, you can always do what you set your mind to if you just try. Keep trying because it gets better.

Melany is heavily involved on campus. She is a member of Theta Sigma Tau, Black Student Union and La Unida.
