Blue Mountain Project

When most people think of Jamaica, they picture warm climates and adventures.

While Hagley Gap and Penlyne Castle in Jamaica provide both, these communities also are impoverished.  Students in the Blue Mountain Project help local Jamaicans in a Fun Camp.

Together, they participate in literacy programs, music and games every August.  School-age children also receive a backpack filled with school supplies, as such items are limited.  Ripon College students also help with After-School Jam, a program that includes homework, reading, board games and computer lessons.

To fund the trip to Jamaica, students in the Blue Mountain Project raise funds throughout the year.  A Ripon College Liberal Arts In Focus program in May allows students another opportunity to visit Jamaica.
