Ripon College offers a major and minor in Spanish. The study of foreign languages develops students’ understanding of and appreciation for the world through the study of foreign languages and literatures, linguistics and cultural phenomena. Students gain skills that allow them to communicate with native speakers; they learn critical and theoretical approaches to texts; and they build cross-cultural perspectives from which to evaluate global issues. Given the evolving nature of the modern languages, instruction at the College stresses oral communication, while using reading and writing to reinforce general language proficiency. The College offers ample opportunities for students to travel to Spanish-speaking countries—and a semester abroad is a requirement for all Spanish majors.
