Ripon College offers a major and minor in psychology. Psychology is approached as both a science and a profession. Psychology majors are provided with the background they need for admission into graduate programs—master of social work programs, Ph.D. programs in psychology, and study in many others areas—or for successful entry into various careers. Students conduct observational studies and research projects and develop the analytical, logical and organizational skills necessary to conduct good research in the field. Careers in the applied areas — clinical, community, industrial, organizational, counseling, and educational psychology — usually are possible at the master’s or doctoral level. Majors who do not pursue graduate degrees in psychology often enter the job market in human services or in positions requiring a general liberal arts degree. Psychology is also an entry degree for graduate programs in social work, education, medicine and law.
