Physical Education

Ripon College offers a major in school-based physical education teaching K-12. Ripon is one of the very few private colleges in Wisconsin at which students can get certified to teach physical education in public schools. This major studies the process and factors related to motor skill acquisition and performance, including motor learning, motor development and motor control. Analysis of the basic skill techniques used in basketball, baseball, softball, track and field, football and wrestling are included, as well as methods of presenting the various skills, drills and techniques used in practicing them. Additionally, students learn about physical, mental and emotional disabilities which can affect the performance of children in public school programs. Emphasis is placed on career and professional opportunities, as students acquire valuable “hands-on” job experience through helping teach classes at the college and high school levels.
