Energy-Charging Your Cell Phone and Your Body
Ever had your cell phone die during a long trip when you forgot your charger? Or sat through a long afternoon meeting when you skipped lunch and didn’t have a snack? The solution to both of these is energy. The course will investigate the science behind the different ways we produce energy (coal, natural gas, nuclear, renewable) to power the needs of our society and the ramifications of each method. Geoengineering and carbon sequestration methods will be examined as a way to counteract CO2 production from fossil fuels. We will also look at chemistry used in of preparing food to fuel our bodies including what’s the difference between yeast and quick bread, how to make gravy, and what makes grilling so delicious.
